Certain Information Can Be Hazardous to Your Wealth
While it’s important to seek out the most information you can about game matchups, having the wrong information can be hazardous to your wealth.
Poor sources of information can come from anywhere, including your buddies, co-workers and even the media. If you have little faith in your own ability to pick consistent winners, are you going to put your trust in these other sources of information? I know that many people believe a consensus opinion is always best, but getting all these different opinions can actually confuse your thought process and cause you to make poor wagering decisions.
Be wary of media reports in particular. Newspaper, magazine and television journalists all fill their articles and stories with opinions that get blended with the facts. While facts are your friends, opinions can cause you to stumble. In order to get the most out of the media, you must do your best to separate the facts from opinion. Don’t get me wrong, the media can and does offer a wealth of good information. However, it’s important to be aware of what you’re reading and only seek out the game facts.
It has also become quite popular for people in the media to give out their own picks for the week’s games in their columns and sports shows. Remember that these individuals are not professional handicappers and most likely do not spend the time necessary to analyze each game. Additionally, any information they broadcast may lose its value once is has been made common knowledge. The bottom line is that these journalists’ picks are generally based on nothing more than hunches or mere guesses anyway, so rely on them at your own peril.
Best of luck,
