While Vegas oddsmakers have to make lines for nearly every game played, you don’t have to play every game. Thus, you are in control what action you take and can choose what games to play. This is your greatest advantage over the oddsmaker - your ability to be selective. Being selective means that you’re searching for value and errors in the numerous Vegas’ lines. This logic is simple. Linesmakers must divide their time among all the games on they will be setting odds for each day. The key to finding errors in the game odds is to perfect your knowledge of certain sports or in the case of college sports break down the teams into smaller groupings. For example, in college football or basketball, where there are over 100 teams it would become an incredible amount of work to follow each one very closely. Therefore, you may prefer to focus most of your attention on a just few particular teams within a specific conference. In this way you can really learn the in’s and out’s of this smaller grouping of teams much better, putting yourself in a great position to know more than the odds makers and to find those mistakes in the game lines.
So be sure to use the odds makers difficult job against them and always be selective when making the choice of which games to play. If you take the time to look for hidden value, you will often find it among the vast number of games listed each week.
